Class Guide

Types of Classes

There are 7 different classes on Taern, and all have been labeled as a specific type. Every type has its own pros and cons and specific player style. A strategy based player may have a different preference than a player obsessed with all-out damage without needing much thought. On The Pride of Taern, there are three different class types, although some classes blur the line between one or the other depending on how they are played.

  • Damage Dealer - this type is associated with dealing damage above all others. Examples of this type include barbarians and fire mages.
  • Debuffer - this type includes sheeds, archers, and voodoos, which weaken enemies with moves that decrease accuracy or damage.
  • Support - this type includes druids and knights, as druids predominantly heal and dispel negative status effects from the party, whereas knights protect weaker party members and cast buffs which strengthen the entire team.

Each type has its pros and cons. A damage dealer often sacrifices accuracy for higher damage. A debuffer often sacrifices damage for higher accuracy. A support type often sacrifices both for better casting of party buffs.

Stat Points and Classes

It may be confusing to know what to do with your initial stat points as you level based on your class. For the most part, other players can help you determine where to put points. But as a general rule, the following applies to each class.

  • Health is important for all classes, but is only added as a stat in sparse amounts, with most players preferring to get high health from their gear.
  • Mana is important for mage classes, such as voodoos, druids and fire mages, although it is important in lesser quantities for sheeds, knights, and some archers. Mana is also an attribute most usually gained by gear.
  • Stamina is important for physical classes, such as sheeds, archers, knights, and barbarians. It is most often gained from gear.

The following stats differ in importance from class to class.

  • Strength is important for physical classes, such as barbarians, archers, knights, and sheeds.
  • Dexterity is important for physical classes, such as barbarians, archers, knights, and sheeds.
  • Power is important for mage classes, such as voodoos, fire mages and druids.
  • Knowledge is important for mage classes and physical classes who cast buffs, such as voodoos, druids, fire mages, sheeds and knights.
