Upcoming Changes

Taern is a game that is always being worked on, with new content being added, bugs being fixed, and graphics improving with every update. Information is posted on Taern's Developer Blog, and at the request of many, changes will be translated here so all players can easily access, prepare, and anticipate the upcoming updates!

Taern 3D: Broken Ranks

There is no announced release date for this update. Expectations for the update on polish servers is by 2017, and so the update should apply to the International server sometime later.

Note: Update information is subject to change and not everything listed may end up in the final version.

This update includes several graphical and animation changes to the game:

• 3-D mobs and players in combat
• Redrawn maps and instants
  • The new tower added in the previous update is one of those maps, released earlier as a teaser.
• Animations in combat improved
• Running animation of players in maps
• Modified and updated user interfaces

There is also talk of changing the PvP system in the game:

• Players will no longer get 2 day damage protection after death in PvP
• Players will have the option to purchase damage protection for gold at NPCs
  • Damage protection will work same as before: protects player in red and purple, but not black. Removed if player attacks another player or joins in PvP combat.

Changes to the Game Engine:

• Game Engine is to be upgraded, resulting in easier changes and more stable engine
• Unconfirmed: Engine will not be run using Adobe Flash plugin.

Additional changes:

• Broken Ranks will be playable from any operating system as before
• Broken Ranks will have a playable downloaded client for Windows and Mac users - there will not be a client for Linux users.
• Use of Steam is being considered.
• Android version of Taern
• iOS version of Taern

Concerns/FAQs

Many players have concerns or questions about the 3D version.

Won't being 3D cause more lag on older/slower computers?

Lag on 2D could mean lag on 3D or not - if the engine is no longer reliant on Adobe flashplayer then the more stable client may improve your connectivity and playing experience. 

Will we have to start over?

This is an update, and not a new game. All accounts will be transferred over. There will be a separate 2D server for those who don't wish to go to the 3D version. All accounts will be backed up and completely safe. 

Will there be any game play changes?

Other than graphics, animations, and the possible PvP changes, gameplay should remain at the same  difficulty level. 

Do I have to play 3D?

No. There will be a separate server for 2D Taern, but according to developer comments, it will not be updated.
